Marc Cucurella makes major Moises Caicedo transfer admission ahead of potential Chelsea reunion

Marc Cucurella believes Chelsea would have a ‘top midfielder for a long time’ should they complete the signing of Moises Caicedo this summer.

The Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is wanted by Chelsea and have already rejected two offers from the Blues, the latest coming on Monday after a written £70 million offer was pushed back.

Caicedo is ‘really unhappy’ with the situation, as previously reported by Ben Jacobs, and wants to make the move to west London to join Mauricio Pochettino‘s side.

The Chelsea head coach was coy on the Ecuador international when asked by reporters in his pre-Wrexham press conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on Tuesday.

“All of the team are working very hard to get what we want,” the 51-year-old said on the reported rejected bit. “I don’t want to speak about specific names. Like us, many clubs are working to sign a player to improve their team.”

Pochettino added: “I want the right profiles to come in and improve the squad. As soon as possible is better than later but we need to work really hard for the target we have. Arrive today is better than tomorrow but we know it’s difficult.”

Meanwhile, Caicedo’s former teammate at Brighton Marc Cucurella, who made the £62 million transfer last summer, was quizzed on a potential reunion with the media.

Cucurella offered a hint over the 21-year-old’s stance and believes Chelsea will get a ‘top midfielder’ if they land Caicedo.

As quoted by Scott Trotter, the Spaniard said: “I think he wants to come here, I’ve read in the media lots of times. I have a good relationship with him, he is a good midfielder and if he comes I think we have a top midfielder for a long time.

Chelsea face Brighton in the second game of their pre-season tour of the United States.
