Thomas Tuchel’s bizarre initial reaction to Chelsea’s loan summer signing of Denis Zakaria from Juventus has been revealed, according to reports.

Chelsea had a hectic summer that was full of incomings which resulted in a club-record amount being spent as Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital looked to make their mark.

The ownership team, who took over in May, splashed the cash in their first transfer window, as they looked to create a team that could challenge on all fronts for trophies.

Over £250 million was spent, as the Blues added to their youth talent and made big money moves for the likes of Raheem Sterling, Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella.

While the west London side prioritised strengthening the forward line and bolstering the defence, they also made a late addition to the midfield.

Alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Zakaria was Chelsea’s other signing on transfer deadline day, as they agreed a loan deal for the Swiss midfielder with Juventus.

It was a last-minute move made by the Blues, who were scrambling around for options to increase their midfield depth.

Jump forward to January, and the 26-year-old is beginning to have more of an impact in a Chelsea shirt.

He has started the last two matches for the Blues, and put in solid performances against both AFC Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

However things started rather slowly for him before this, having signed for Chelsea at the beginning of September, he had to wait until November until he got his first opportunity to play.

This would have unsettled Zakaria but he has dealt with it well, on top of this though there was an even more awkward moment between him and his former head coach Thomas Tuchel when he first signed.

As reported by The Telegraph, when Tuchel was introduced to Zakaria for the first time he failed to put a name to the face.

It did not take him long to realise, and the German did identify the midfielder, saving too much embarrassment.

Everyone at Chelsea certainly knows who Zakaria is now, and he will be hoping that more opportunities come his way with the club as he is starting to look very settled and an important part of the team when they play.
